San Diego is the perfect climate for year round golf, and many people take advantage of the mild temperatures, as is evidenced by 80 plus golf courses in the area. 52 year old Curt Ellerbee has been playing golf since he was a teenager in the San Diego area, and is thrilled with the expansion of accommodations for golfers throughout the community.

While there are over 80 golf course in the San Diego area, there are a few upscale, high quality ones in the bunch. Torrey Pines Golf Course is one of them, located in La Jolla, it has a pay per play rate available to those who are traveling or don’t wish to become members. You can book anywhere from 8 days to 90 day s in advance in order to secure your spot. Torrey Pines was designed by the highly acclaimed William P. Bell, and opened in 1957.

Curt Ellerbee prefers to use the iconic La Costa Resort and Spa golf course, one where legendary golfers have been known to play, such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. There are several golf packages to choose from if you are visiting, but membership is also available for locals and frequent players.

Another top contender for golf courses in the area is the Aviara Golf Club. The Aviara golf club has excellent views of the Bataquitas Lagoon, and is highly rated by local golfers and golf organizations alike. Ellerbee finds it worth it to maintain a membership here as well as at La Costa, to add variation to his golf experience.

San Diego is a golfer’s paradise, with both memberships and pay per play rates available. Golfers everywhere love to come to San Diego to hit the green.
